Restaurant Ava inaugural wine dinner with Mosaic Wine Group

Mosaic Wine Group recently had the opportunity to spend a wonderful evening of great food and wine in Rockwall, Texas, hosting the first wine dinner at Restaurant Ava. The spectacular six-course dinner was paired with a selection of wines from the Mosaic Wine Group portfolio and was a fantastic way to launch their wine dinner program. Chef / Owners Randall Copeland and Nathan Tate pulled out all the stops for this menu and the crowd was delighted with the seamless stream of food and wine pairings.menu

Greeting guests was a trio of hors d’oeuvres, including a White Gazpacho Soup, Jonah’s Crab Salad and Chicken Confit with Shiitake Mushrooms on Toast Points paired with the 2007 Bisol Crede Prosecco.

First Course was a ‘Fig Duet’, which included a Turkish Fig Tart with Paula’s Goat Cheese and Golden Celeste Figs drizzled with fresh orange blossom honey. This was paired with the 2007 Abbazia di Novacella Kerner, from this historic producer in Alto-Adige, founded in the year 1142.fig duet

Second course was an absolutely brilliant butter-poached lobster with taragon, lemon verbena and a house-made sweet corn tortelloni. This creamy-textured dish was paired with the well-structured 2007 Chateau Graville-Lacoste, a White Bordeaux from Graves.

The fantastic menu pairings continued with a smoky Meyer ribeye pave and fresh basil, kalamata olives and local tomatoes, which was an incredible compliment to the 2007 Aglianico from Terredora di Paolo in Campania.meyer robeye pave

After an intermezzo of fresh local peach sorbet, the night was capped off with a delightful dessert to remember – (friend of the family) Eileen’s Carrot Cake served with a carrot-reduction and cream cheese ice cream, paired with a Muscat Beaumes de Venise from producer Domaine du Durban in the Southern Rhone Valley of France.

It was certainly an evening to remember for those able to attend. Rockwall is just a short drive from downtown Dallas, and you should check this restaurant out as soon as possible. Their philosophy of utilizing local farmers, the freshest produce and meats available and (of course) supporting the portfolio of Mosaic Wine Group make this a restaurant destined for long-term success!

Congratulations to Restaurant Ava and their incredible staff for hosting such a wonderful wine dinner event.chad butler table

High marks for the wines of Vias from Wine & Spirits Magazine

Above: the Latin term Praepositus is used to denote “Abbot.” The top wine by Abbazia di Novacella (the Abbey of Novacella) in Alto Adige is named after the Praepositus of the Abbey. Mosaic Wine Group took this picture of an inscription where the term appears when we visited in April. The winery’s Sylvaner Praepositus received 90 points from Wine & Spirits Magazine. Abbazia di Novacella: On a Mission from God

Mosaic Wine Group visited one of the oldest wineries in the world, Abbazia di Novacella, in Alto Adige this week. This famed property was established in the year 1142 by Augustinian Monks and holds some of the most incredible relics, art and a library that gave us goosebumps. The Abbey continues to thrive today and remains financially independent from the state, supported largely by the 500,000 bottle production of world class wines from Abbazia di Novacella.

Abbazia di Novacella produces incredible wines from the Isarco Valley that include brilliant white selections Kerner, Sylvaner, Pinot Grigio, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurtztraminer, as well as red grapes Pinot Nero and Lagrein. We had the opportunity to tour this historic property and spend some time with managing director, Marco Scartezzini, who delighted us with the 2008 white wines and 2007 red wines.

Among the highlights of the tour of Abbazia di Novacella is the library, boasting more than 20,000 volumes dating back to the 13th Century. These hallowed halls included some of the most incredible and priceless pieces of literature, including two Gutenberg bibles (of only 180 produced) and hundreds of hand-written and decorated volumes. The abbey also displays a breathtaking amount of art and antiquities throughout the estate. It was a breathtaking tour and one of the highlights of a wonderful visit to Italy.

The wines of Abbazia di Novacella have consistently been lauded with great press and accolades, and in 2009 the winery received one of its greatest accolades, with winemaker Celestino Lucin being named ‘Winemaker of the Year’ by Gambero Rosso. Mosaic Wine Group is honored to represent this historic property and looks forward to another fantastic year for Abbazia di Novacella in the Southwest United States.

Coquette Bistro & Wine Bar: Flirting with Success in New Orleans

Coquette Bistro and Wine Bar
2800 Magazine St
New Orleans LA 70115

Mosaic Wine Group visited a terrific new account in New Orleans, Coquette Bistro & Wine Bar, and met owners Mike Stoltzfus (Chef/Owner) and fiancée Lillian Hubbard (Front-of-House/Wine Director). Mr. Webster defines Coquette (noun) as: “a woman who flirts lightheartedly with men to win their admiration and affection; flirt.” No flirtation was necessary, we dove right into a love affair with Coquette from the moment we walked in the door!

Coquette Bistro & Wine Bar opened in December of 2008 in a beautiful late 1800’s two-story building in historic New Orleans. Chef/Owner Mike Stoltzfus comes from a well-pedigreed culinary background, working most recently as Sous Chef to one of New Orleans legendary chefs, John Besh at Restaurant August. Along with his fiancée, who handles the front-of-house and wine program, they embarked upon their dream to open their own place  a beautiful Bistro and Wine Bar, which includes a wonderful menu of New Orleans-influenced cuisine.

Mosaic Wine Group visited Coquette on a beautiful, spring St. Patrick’s Day 2009. The menu is creative, yet concise, with a selection of small plates, and a well-designed selection of entrees. On this day, my wine compadre and I shared the delectable Pork Belly Rillette, and I dove into the Steak Frites, while my friend enjoyed a special Seared Redfish Risotto.

muralWhen dropping into Coquette, you’ll be able to enjoy a couple of great wines from the Mosaic Wine Group portfolio, including the 2007 Abbazia di Novacella Kerner from Alto-Adige: a bright, floral white wine from one of the oldest wineries in the world, established in 1142.

You’ll also find the 2004 Damilano Barolo “Lecinquevigne,” one of Piedmont’s best & brightest producers of Barolo.

We wish the best to Lillian, Mike and the team at Coquette! We’ll certainly be back!
