Italy and Japan: a love affair

Yesterday found Mosaic Wine Group in Little Rock Arkansas, where it enjoyed excellent sushi and a glass of Maso Poli 2007 Pinot Grigio at Sushi Cafe. Many call owner Robert Tju’s restaurant “the best sushi in Little Rock.” His menu features a traditional Japanese cuisine as well a variety of classic American and Japanese fusion dishes.

Every one of the whites on Robert’s list are served by the glass. The bright acidity of Maso Poli’s Pinot Grigio paired beautifully with the spiciness of the wasabi, while its structure and elegance — the result of barrel fermentation and a stirring of the lees (batonnage) — drew out the luscious fatty flavors of the raw fish. A match made in heaven…

One of Robert’s signature fusion dishes is the irresistible Kobe Hot Dog: “all natural grilled Kobe Hot Dog served with sautéed onioins, red bell peppers, and sweet potato fries.” Let’s make it clear. Mosaic Wine Group has one and only one thing to say about this: Y-U-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M!!!

And now time for juicy trivia…

benedettaOne of the most famous love triangles in 1930s Italy was between poet F.T. Marinetti, his beautiful wife Benedetta Cappa (left), and Japanese ambassador Shirokuro Hidaka. You learn the strangest things reading the Mosaic Wine Group blog, don’t you?
